Throughout the aging process our facial skin loses its vitality, wrinkles appear, and elasticity is reduced due to collagen fibers fatigue. This is why so many women around the world take cosmetic steps such as facials, innovative creams, and aesthetic procedures to ensure their face looks as young as possible.
The same loss of vitality occurs in the vaginal tissue area where collagen fibers lose their elasticity due to aging and childbirth. Due to structural changes in the vagina and urethra area and the loss of collagen fibers’ firmness, this phenomenon can cause reduction in sexual fulfillment in addition to stress urinary incontinence at different severity levels.
Minnesota Labiaplasty offers a number of non-surgical solutions. Included are: FemiLift, ThermiVa, and Geneveve by Viveve. Dr. Ashford will discuss his recommendation for your treatment based on your specific situation and his professional expertise.
FemiLift is a new CO2 laser, made specifically for the vagina, that corrects changes by remodeling the collagen which causes contraction of the tissues as well as more production of collagen. This all results in healthier vaginal tissue as well as tightening of the vagina. The same therapy around the collagen tissue surrounding the bladder and urethra can help decreases urinary leakage.
How FemiLift works
The new FemiLift CO2 laser works by causing a contraction of the tissues and stimulates collagen production. The laser probe is inserted vaginally and carefully calculated laser pulses trigger changes deep in the tissue. Vaginal tissue is thereby tightened and collagen production is stimulated.
ThermiVa uses radiofrequency energy to gently heat tissue so that women can reclaim, restore and revive feminine wellness without discomfort or downtime. A special wand applicator is used which may be applied externally to labia and vulvar tissues to restore normal tissue tone and function. In addition, it can be used inside the vagina to revive atrophic tissue and other structures.
ThermiVa is non-surgical ... so there's no downtime, no anesthesia, and sexual relations may resume the same day. Patients see a noticeable improvement after 1 or 2 sessions and the results last a long time.
Women are treated with ThermiVa for a number of different reasons, but these are often the most important:
“Loose” vaginal feel since childbirth and/or menopause
Vaginal dryness during intercourse
Trouble reaching orgasm
Occasional urinary dribble or leakage with sneezing, coughing or exercise
Intimate relationships suffering due to changes
Have experienced a loss of self-confidence, loss of interest in sex or loss of desire
How ThermiVa works
ThermiVa treatments use radiofrequency energy to gently heat tissue to reclaim, restore and revive feminine wellness, without discomfort or downtime.
Geneveve is a treatment that uses gentle deep heating and surface cooling to stimulate the body’s natural collagen formation process. It is a comfortable, single-session, 30-minute treatment. Geneveve does not require local or topical anesthesia or analgesics and is performed by a trained healthcare professional in an outpatient setting. Geneveve works at a cellular level to rebuild and restore collagen within the vaginal tissue – without surgery and without disrupting the surface tissue.
Why would I consider Geneveve?
If you are experiencing the following, you may want to talk to a healthcare professional about Geneveve:
• Do tampons feel like they are slipping out?
• Does your vagina feel loose during intimacy?
• Have you noticed a decrease in physical sensation during intimacy?
• Is the fit with your partner not as snug as in the past?
• Do you sometimes feel air flowing from your vagina?
How Geneveve Works
The Geneveve treatment is a respectful, comfortable, 30-minute, single-session, in-office treatment that does not require local or topical numbing medication. At the beginning of the procedure, the practitioner inserts a treatment tip (the size of a thumb) just inside the vaginal opening. This tip is circumferentially rotated around the opening of the vagina delivering just the right delivery of alternating pulses of heating and cooling. The vaginal tissue reacts to the heat by replenishing new youthful, cushioning collagen within the tissue. Everyone’s baseline level of laxity and natural response mechanisms vary but results typically peak at about 90 days and are still evident at 12 months.
We offer the O-Shot - a non-invasive therapeutic treatment for women suffering from incontinence and anorgasmia - the inability to achieve orgasm with sexual intercourse. This particular therapy has had a significant amount of media attention in the past year and has become increasingly popular with many women.
The O-Shot is an injection of platelet rich plasma around the clitoris, the urethra and vagina. It results in improved nerve and collagen growth as a result of the stimulation provided by the platelets. Often, the O-Shot is combined with Femilift or ThemiVa to get maximum results.
No, these procedures are not painful. Most women say it is more comfortable than having a pap smear. There is no bleeding.
For both treatments, the equipment that comes into contact with patients inside and outside the vagina is a single-use, sterile, disposable covering that prevents transmission of infections.
FemiLift uses a specialized laser to create the energy that is used to bring about the desired tightening effect or correct urinary incontinence. It induces new collagen to form in the underlying vaginal tissues. The same kind of laser has been used for many years on the face for rejuvenation and smoothing of wrinkles.
ThermiVa uses radiofrequency energy to gently heat tissue both internally and externally. This is the same safe technology that has been used for non-surgical dermatological applications in aesthetics and other medical specialties.
FemiLift is effective for two years. If you are planning pregnancy within two years or less, we suggest that you wait until after the birth. Once you have given birth, we suggest that you wait at least 3 months to ensure that any scars from tears or an episiotomy have had a chance to heal and the vaginal tone has recovered naturally. The procedure is safe for nursing mothers.
Thrush: FemiLift will not make your condition worse, but if you are prone to getting a thrush then it would be a good idea to obtain from over-the-counter treatments such as Canesten about 2 to 3 days prior to your planned laser treatment.
Cystitis: This treatment has not been associated with any worsening of cystitis type symptoms such as increased urination frequency or burning sensation when urinating.
Endometriosis: In most cases this treatment is okay for women with endometriosis. If you suffer from intense, deep pelvic pain during intercourse Dr. Ashford may advise against FemiLift and suggest an alternative.
Most women experience no pain during or after the procedure. You will be asked to abstain from penetrative intercourse for 5 days. Strenuous exercise should be avoided for 3 days following the procedure. There are no restrictions for bathing or saunas.
Typically, most women have a good response to 2-3 treatments. Treatment effectiveness is 24 months or more. Dr. Ashford can advise you on the time between treatments.
No. If anything it may help to improve lubrication. Recent studies showed improvement in the dryness caused by menopause symptoms.
